Poetry by Ryan Aliapoulios

sanguine

haunt
                    the final forests
outside
                    the compound shrieks
glass
                    gutters     the modernist
architecture
                    flowers not
withered
                    guts burn
oil
                    fire not domestic only
patient
                    bathing in the acid
rain
                    beneath a weave of frond
shivers
                    coke cans pounded into
blades
                    tribute to the
carcajou
                    the animal     the earth roots
rise
                    voices cover night
quiet
                    ears of
mercenaries
                    sleep     become our
cathedral
                    our children’s eyes
panopticon
                    watchmen flee beneath
arrow
                    family together now
inside
                    airpods by the bedside
dead
                    plink plink     sippy cup     makeshift
rattle
                    still in the recycling
spirit
                    ritual: drink
blood
                    like they taught us
