Poetry by Shannon Hearn

from Paranoid citi

WALK! THEN
WALK THE WAY AGAIN
BACKWARDS
WITH YOUR SHOES UNTIED
FIND A BUSH TO HOUND
YOUR NOSE
SMELL THE LILACS!
DON’T TAKE THEM!
LET YOUR WANT BE AN OPEN
WOUND FOLLOW THE PIGS
STRAIGHT TO THE SLAUGHTER
THEN
LET THE BEES TAKE YOU
BACK
I PROMISE THE STING
IS THE VERY LAST BITE
FIND A SLOPE IN THE GROUND
SLOPE! LAY WIDTH GRASS!
LET THE SLOP BE YOUR MEDICINE
BURY YOUR FACE THERE
YOU WILL NEVER BE STILL
ENOUGH! BUT YOU WILL BE
A RESTING PLACE TO LET
THE DIRT FILL YOU YOU?
HAVE ALWAYS BEEN
FORGIVEN EVEN AS
YOUR EMOTION ORGANS
SCREAM ENOUGH! TOO
MUCH!” YOU FLAIL ARE
A FIELD AQUARIUM
YOU ARE A FIELD
YOU ARE SIMPLY A CROP
FAINTING IN A CORNER

I TAKE A SCREENSHOT
I TAKE A SCREENSHOT
I TAKE A SCREENSHOT
I GO TO A CONFERENCE ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE
OF THE ARCHIVE
I TAPE MY NAME AGAINST THE WALLS THE ARCHIVE
I TAKE A SCREENSHOT
BLISTER
THE BLACK OF MY SNEAKERS GLISTEN!
YOUR NAME OUT
NAME OUT
NAME OUT
YOU SAY MY NAME THREE TIMES WHOLE
I AM JELLY
IN A POEM ABOUT FATHERHOOD
YOU PUT THE JELLYFISH INSIDE OF ME
THIS TIME
I WALLOW WIN RELIEF AS YOU MOVE
ALL OF THE WET FROM YOU OVER
TO ME
I PRETEND I AM ABOUT TO GET PREGNANT
I EAT MUSCLES
I AM A WEAK LITTLE OYSTER
I SAVE NAME OUT
I TAKE A SCREENSHOT
CAN YOU HEAR ME SAYING NAME
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ARCHIVE
THE ARCHIVE IS MY IMPORTANT PRACTICE
THE ARCHIVE IS MY IMPORTANT PRACTICE
DO YOU SEE ME?
SAYING YOUR NAME

#

MY EYES RING
I ABSORB
MORNING
CARS THEY HUM
I CURTSY
I STICK MY FISTS
INSIDE OF AN ORANGE
BLOSSOM ONCE
AT DAY BREAK
WRING THE RIND
BRAID THE FRUIT
THROUGH
MY HAIR OH GOSH
MY HAIR IS FALLING
OUT I GRIP
I AM A BASKET WEAVER
I AM A GATHERING
I COLLECT UP
ALL FLIGHT
WHEN A BEE BANGS
INTO A WINDOW
I FORGET MY OWN
NAME
LET YOU TAKE ME
FROM BEHIND
I WALK OUT WALK FAR
TO WAIT
A CORNER
A WOODEN BRIDGE
NOW I WAIT
TO SEE HER OPEN
